About
I am a forty-something mom who loves to drive, anytime, anywhere. I’ve always wondered if I have the guts to race, especially at NASCAR speeds.
I think racing interests me because my dad used to race. Back in the late 1950s one of the tracks my dad raced at was the Chemung Speedrome, built by the Bodine’s in Chemung, NY. My dad stayed in racing only a couple of years, but his race team racked up many wins during that time. There are still a few trophies scattered amongst the family and even fewer pictures.
Occasionally I wonder what would have happened if my dad had stayed racing. Would our name be as well-known in NASCAR as the Bodine’s? Would my children and my brother’s children be in the early stages of their racing careers right now? Probably not, but it is fun to consider the possibilities.
My NASCAR Race Blog will not spotlight one particular driver, but I do have my favorite. Should I tell you? It is Jeff Gordon. Wait! Come back all you Earnhardt fans! JG is not the only driver I like, I promise! I even root for Junior now and again!
Blame my brother-in-law for turning me into a Jeff Gordon fan. Or better yet, blame it on my brother. When I was a teenager I discovered that watching football was a lot more fun if I rooted against the team that my brother liked. It would seriously annoy him to hear me rooting for any and all teams that were playing against his beloved Minnesota Vikings. And most especially when it was the Pittsburgh Steelers, which quickly became my favorite football team in the 70s. So when I began to pay attention to NASCAR, what better driver to root for than my brother-in-law’s most hated driver, Jeff Gordon. Just what was it about Gordon that so aggravated Earnhardt fans? Whatever it was, the more my brother-in-law favored Dale Earnhardt Sr., the more fun it was to talk about Jeff Gordon!
Today I have many favorite drivers and none that I truly hate. Mostly I just love to watch them race and follow their off-the-track antics. NASCAR has become my soap opera of choice (and this from one who never watches soaps!).
I would like to thank both my cousin and my husband for giving me the inspiration to begin this blog. My cousin because she first planted the idea of NASCAR blogging when she sent me a link to a blogging job posted on Craigslist.com. And my husband because he suggested I do my own racing blog rather than write for someone else’s blog. Gotta love him!
Let’s Go Racing Boys!
